Our neighborhood offers a variety of outdoor activities, perfect for working up a sweat or immersing yourself in nature, all while being just minutes from the University of Utah, Downtown Salt Lake City, Park City, and other nearby attractions.
Take a hike. Enjoy one of the many trails nearby, such as the popular H Rock trail (which can be accessed from 1865 South Devonshire Drive), the Emigration Trailhead, or any section of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail.
Cycling & Mountain Biking. Check out SLC’s Bikeways Map to plan your street routes. Sunnyside Ave. is among the most popular routes for cyclists in SLC, while Wasatch Drive, the link between Sunnyside and Parley’s Trail, is another frequently used route. The Kensington Byway is another option, complete with a pedestrian and cyclist crossing across Foothill Drive. Mountain bikers can head to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and other trails along the foothills.
Get your game on. Our neighborhood is home to several wonderful sports venues.
- Tennis players can reserve an indoor or outdoor court, or sign up for private lessons and group workouts at Wasatch Hills Tennis, whose facilities recently received a beautiful upgrade.
- Hit the links at Bonneville Golf Course, our neighborhood 18-hole city course, complete with a driving range. Get an early morning tee time for your best chance to see the resident foxes.
- Use the fields and batting cage at the Oak Hills Baseball Diamonds, home to the Foothill Baseball kids’ league.
Enjoy some family time. The northernmost end of our neighborhood hosts two of the city’s best family attractions: Hogle Zoo and This is the Place.
- Besides amazing animal exhibits, Hogle Zoo has many fun programs and events for children and adults alike. Take the kids to ride the train (recently converted to electric) or cool off in the splash pad. Seasonal activities such as BooLights at Halloween and ZooLights during the winter holidays never disappoint.
- This is the Place Heritage Park offers a glimpse into Utah’s history through Heritage Village, where you can learn about living during the pioneer days and even walk through many preserved structures that have been relocated to the park. There are many fun activities for the kids, such as wagon or pony rides, panning for gold, and, of course, the baby animal days in springtime.
Spend an afternoon at the park. Donner Park is the largest park in the East Bench neighborhood. It offers a playground, jogging/walking path, and picnic tables. It will soon be a recipient to funds of a bond measure approved by voters to update and improve the facilities. Learn more about this project and give feedback here.
Shop & Dine. The retail and restaurant scene on the East Bench is currently in a transition phase, as the two main shopping areas are both undergoing significant construction.
- Foothill Village – Shops, restaurants, and services remain open, with several new tenants opening their doors, so make sure to support our local businesses.
- Lamplighter Square – Construction is underway to rebuild the structures, so stay tuned for what businesses fill the space.
